10 years ago, I was watching TV (yes, regular cable TV) and I came across an infomercial for a fitness program called P90X. What sold me on this concept was the calendar of workouts laid out for me to achieve a total body transformation. I was sold. I purchased the set of DVDs and thus started my love affair with Beachbody fitness (and Tony Horton).

Back before kids, when I had options and time to go anywhere, I still preferred doing my workouts from the comfort of my own living room or hotel room when I traveled. Bob and I would wake up early, get our workout in and drink our shakes before heading off to work. I loved every second of it. I didn't have a "Coach" or a "Challenge Group" to participate in, but loved the workouts and stayed mostly consistent with it.

Then the Insanity program from ShaunT launched, and oh how I love ShaunT! This program is seriously intense cardio. It was my go-to program to get back in shape after having my first son, Jacob. When Jacob, turned 1, we decided to try for another baby so that they'd be close in age. In my mind, I told myself I didn't really need to exercise or eat right if I was just going to get pregnant again soon. During my 2nd pregnancy, I gain 60 pounds and was in an unhealthy place mentally.

It was right around that time that my husband, Bob, had taken a job in New Hampshire and was planning to move our family there. I spent the last 3 months of my pregnancy in Cleveland with Jacob waiting to have the baby while he worked there. Just days before I gave birth, Bob decided he hated that job and wanted to move home. It was such a relief but the emotions and hormones, plus the addition of a new baby took a toll on my mental health. I wanted to get back to my old self. I gained weight and it wasn't coming off as easily as the first time. I didn't love my post-baby body like everyone tells you to. And it was hard for me to connect with the baby and my husband.

I started taking spin classes. I worked with a personal trainer. I started rotating Beachbody programs, including T25 (a 25 minute cardio program from ShaunT) and eventually started rebuilding my core and my confidence.

Although it wasn't an easy decision, it was the greatest decision for our family to try for baby #3. I knew in my heart that it would be my last baby and that I wanted a plan to get back into shape long term after delivery. I started following a bunch of different Beachbody Coaches on Instagram, thinking that Coaching might be a great avenue for me to try, knowing that I already loved the products and maybe I'd get more from it if I was invested in the business. At 8 months pregnant, I enrolled as a Beachbody Coach and joined the CONQUER NATION team (formerly Real Women Conquer). I loved so many things about what I learned in those early days, below are just a few:

  1. My Coach is a mom of 3 (just like me!) and she loves skinny margaritas and spin classes!!!
  2. There is a real team environment, I never feel like I'm doing this all on my own.
  3. The core values of this company are about helping people live healthier and happier lives, not about selling products.
  4. I was never told to figure it out on my own. I went through a mentorship program, I provided with a calendar of events and promotions, and there are team meetings/calls and training opportunities.
  5. I don't need to maintain any physical inventory.
  6. The products and programs ACTUALLY WORK, but its no magic pill, you must do the work, and I love this kind of work!
  7. Being a Coach means I'm accountable to myself and my team. If I'm going to help others live a healthier lifestyle, I need to walk the walk and be a product of the products. This has helped me get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE.
  8. There are quarterly regional meetings to connect with others and learn, plus a HUGE annual conference with live workouts with Super Trainers!
  9. Endless opportunities to earn bonuses - this includes trips, swag, and other special perks
  10. Everyone in this business truly cares about working hard and playing hard.

After enrolling as a Coach, I thought I had to learn everything in order to really start promoting my business. I was wrong. I already knew all the programs, had experience with the equipment, had seen results and used the supplements. I jumped into the online mentorship program, watching videos and reading all the materials I could find time for in-between naps and feeding a newborn.

I wouldn't say it's been easy. I don't believe starting and running a business is meant to be. Layer in a newborn who didn't sleep for longer than an hour at a time and you can say I struggled to find my footing.

Just when I was cleared to started working out again postpartum, Transform:20 launched (a 20-minute program from ShaunT) right when I needed a quick, intense cardio program to help whip my butt back into shape. It was even harder the 3rd time around. I was exhausted and mentally drained. It was also at this time my company sold while I was out on maternity leave and I found myself unemployed for the first time in my adult life.

In January 2019, I made plans to attend my first regional meeting in Toronto, knowing my Coach was traveling in from Kansas City, since her Coach was also going to be there in person. I was nervous and totally outside of my comfort zone but I felt so strongly that I was led there by something bigger than myself. I wanted to be there, I wanted to be a part of this community. It was the start I needed to really get moving.

1 year and 6 programs later, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. I feel happy in my heart. It's not that this company has changed my life; its that I've found a passion that lights me up from the inside and that has spread to all other areas of my life. I've reconnected with old friends, have made some new friends from all over the country, and have found my way back to doing something I love so much.

Everyone joins this business for a different reason. I'll admit, the discount alone is worth it. But there is so much more to gain! Friendships, education, mentorship, supplemental income, time freedom, purpose, health -- just to name a few. And while Beachbody does not guarantee any level of income, success is totally dependent on the skill level and work put into the business, there is potential to create a meaningful business and income for your family.
